A bid to launch impeachment proceedings against President Donald Trump has been blocked
in the US House of Representatives. Texas Democrat Al Green filed the resolution after the
House voted to denounce Mr Trump’s attacks aimed at four US congresswomen as racist.
But the measure failed to win enough support, with his fellow Democrats voting
overwhelmingly against. Mr Trump said the “ridiculous” attempts to impeach him were now “over”
Later, Raucous crowds chanted "Send her back!” as Trump stepped up attacks against four
non-white Democrat congresswomen”, including Somali-born Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, at his
first campaign rally since announcing his 2020 re-election bid.
He was cheered on by the crowd as he again accused the women of hating America.
Trump termed the four legislators as un-American and said they should leave the United
States if they do not like his policies on issues such as immigration and defence of Israel.
The Democratic-controlled House of Representatives on Tuesday voted to condemn those
remarks as racist. Pushing back at the criticism, Trump insisted he does not “have a racist
bone in his body”
