About one thousand, four hundred and seventy-two cases of non-compliance with polio immunisation have been recorded in Bauchi state according to findings. State Consultant for World Health Organisation (WHO), Dr Habu Dahiru, disclosed this at a one day workshop for women journalists on Polio Immunisation. Dr Dahiru noted that since Nigeria was de-listed as a non-endemic country in 2013, cases of non-compliance began to rise. According to him, religious beliefs, hostility towards health workers and inherent doubts about safety of the Oral Polio Vaccine and other factors were responsible for its rejection by people in many communities. He urges journalists to assist the body in enlightening the public on the importance of polio immunization.
