Health Stakeholders organize awareness for donation of blood in Kwara State

In commemoration of the World Blood Donor Day, the Media Advocacy and Technologies Center (MATEC) in partnership with different stakeholders in the health sector organizes awareness for the donation of blood in Kwara state.

Other stakeholders involved in the awareness include the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH), Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria (UITH Chapter), the Federal Ministry of Health and Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin, Kwara State.

The awareness campaign which is a two-day event emphasised on the need for people to be more aware about the benefits of blood donation.

Speaking on behalf of the organizers, the Deputy Director in Charge of Blood Bank, UITH, Comrade ALABI SUNDAY, noted that the collaboration was poised to sensitize the public on the need to safe lives through blood donation so as to change the narrative that only relatives of the sick and people in need of blood can readily donate blood.

In his remarks, Vice Chancellor Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin, Prof. NOAH YUSUF thanked the stakeholders for turning up for the event and assured them that the institution will enhance efforts to promote blood donation to build a healthy environment.

The Blood donors at the event who spoke to our correspondent also shared their experiences, adding that they will donate again if they have the opportunity to do so.
