Documents reveal how AGF Malami masterminded Maina’s recall

Documents have emerged which indicate that the controversial recall of former head of the Presidential Task Force on Pension Reforms Abdulrasheed Maina to the Nigerian civil service was masterminded by Attorney General Abubakar Malami.

Maina, who is still wanted for alleged two billion frauds by the Economic and Financial Crime Commission, was dismissed for absconding from office on February 21, 2013. The EFCC secured a court order for his arrest two years later, on October 27, 2015, but the arrest warrant was however lifted in 2016.

Malami in a letter written to the Federal Civil Service Commission, FCSC on April 27, 2017 however requested Maina’s reinstatement based on the court order voiding his arrest warrant, but on Monday evening, EFCC spokesperson, Wilson Uwujaren, insists that Maina is wanted by the commission.

Following Malami’s letter, the FCSC reinstated Maina into the service with effect from February 21, 2017, exactly four years after he was earlier dismissed from service and approved him to sit for the next promotion examination for the post of Director.

Maina’s recall has since been condemned by Nigerians, forcing President Muhammadu Buhari to order his “immediate disengagement” from the civil service. He has also “demanded a full probe into the recall.
