Academic activities at both primary and junior secondary schools in Kwara state were yesterday paralyzed following the strike embarked on by the affected teachers over non-payment of three months salaries by the government even as it enters the second day today.
The teachers had last year issued a series of warning notices to the government on the need to work a way out to pay their outstanding arrears of salaries and allowances of over four months or face an industrial action.
Reports from all the primary and junior secondary schools across the sixteen local government councils on Monday revealed that teachers were absent at their duty posts.
Even in the state capital, Ilorin, many pupils and students who went to schools in such areas as Offa Road, Saw Mill, Sabo Oke, Okelele, Ita-Amon, Adewole, Babaoko, Zanngo among others were turned back.
