The Senate has recommended a five-year jail term for morally bankrupt male lecturers in tertiary institutions, especially those who engage in sexual harassment.
The recommendation was contained in a Bill entitled “Sexual Harassment in Tertiary Institutions Bill 2016,” sponsored by Senator Ovie Omo Agege and other senators. Senator Ovie Omo- Agege, who spoke on behalf of 45 other colleagues, said that the major intention of the bill was to restore morality, discipline and sanity between male educators and female students in higher institutions in the country.
THE Senate also approved a punishment of death penalty for kidnappers in the country.
The lawmakers adopted the position, following the debate on the recommendations contained in a report on kidnapping in the country by Senator Abu Ibrahim. The Senate also adopted the recommendation seeking to prioritize funding of security agencies.
