Security agents arrest Albarnawi, Shekau’s deputy in Kogi

Security operatives at the weekend made a major breakthrough in the intensified campaign against the Boko Haram insurgency by arresting the leader of the Ansaru Islamic Sect, Khalid Albarnawi. The Acting Director Defence information, Brigadier General Rabe Abubakar, confirmed the arrest of the top wanted terror suspect, who was described as the second in command to Abubakar Shekau in the hierarchy of the Boko Haram terrorists group. He however noted that further investigations are being carried out and the details will be formally communicated to the members of the public in due course. The US had placed a five million dollars bounty on the Ansaru leader, after branding him one of three Nigerian specially designated global terrorists in 2012. Ansaru is a splinter group of, Boko Haram, known for kidnapping foreigners.

The insurgents came into the town at about 5am from the Gujba axis south east of the town were shooting sporadically and triggering off explosives.
