Residents in Tanke community, Ilorin South Local Government Area have decried the lack of proper waste disposal system within the area despite the state government effort to build a sustainable waste management system.
It could be recalled that in a recent report by the National Hydrological Service Agency (NHISA), Kwara was listed among the 32 states prone to flooding through the annual flood outlook.
RoyalFM correspondent, Adetoro Oyenuga, reports that some residents, who reside in Sanrab, Tanke community dump their refuse in the drainage, relying on flood as alternative to the waste management people.
A resident of the community, Mr. Emmanuel confirmed the poor waste disposal habit in the community, adding that although the waste management people often come around, they only pick up organized dirt.
“The thing is whenever they come they don’t pick the dirt that are not arranged, if the waste was thrown in a bin they will pack it but the one on the road won’t be packed”.
On his part, Mr. Oladimeji claimed the waste management people don’t come often.
“I have not really been seeing them as frequent as they should be so it’s one of the contributorsto the waste situation in the state”.
