Presidential election free, fair until counting, uploading of result – West African observers

The West African Civil Society Forum (WACSOF), a regional network of CSOs drawn from 15 West African states, has said the February 25 presidential election that produced Bola Tinubu, the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, as the winner, was initially free and fair until counting and uploading began.

The National Executive Director of the forum, Dr Sanwo Olatunji-David stated this on Tuesday in Abuja while reviewing the just-concluded presidential and National Assembly polls.

Daily post reports that David blamed some of the technical hitches on inadequate training of polling unit agents on the effective use of the BVAS.

On the coming gubernatorial election, he charged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), to address the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) glitch ahead of the March 11 governorship and State Assembly elections.

Banks pay old notes in Ibadan as traders, stations reject

Some banks in Ibadan on Tuesday paid customers old N500 and N1,000 notes.The situation offered some form of respite for many customers who stormed the banks as early as possible.

Although, there were long queues at most banks, the Nation newspaper reports that many customers expressed happiness they could access fund and got tangible amount.

It was gathered that particularly Access Bank around Bodija, Ibadan paid with the old naira notes.

Sources also confirmed banks paid between N10, 000 and N20, 000 as against the N2,000 per customers in the past weeks.
