Presidency fires back at PDP for attacking President Buhari over Maina

The Presidency has said the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, lacks the moral right to criticize President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration over the botched reinstatement of former Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on Pension Reforms, Abdulrasheed Maina.

Presidential spokesman Garba Shehu described Maina as one of the monsters created by the former PDP government. He alleged that some influential officials loyal to the previous government might have been the invisible hands in the return of Maina to the public service, despite being on the EFCC’s wanted list.

Shehu however assured Nigerians that President Buhari is determined to get to the bottom of the impunity that led to Maina’s reinstatement. The PDP had said that it was not shocked at the steps taken by the administration of the All Progressives Congress in reinstating a supposed criminal and fugitive to office instead of getting him arrested.

Meanwhile, a second Republic lawmaker, Junaid Mohammed, has alleged that President Buhari is aware of the political campaign by Maina last week in Kano. Mohammed made the claim while berating Buhari for taking Nigerians for granted on the ongoing saga.

Speaking during an interview, the lawmaker said during the political campaign in Kano, Maina was protected by men of the Nigerian Police Force and operatives of the Department of State Services, DSS. Mohammed urged Nigerians not to allow the matter to be swept under the carpet.
