Power Distribution Companies Shun Opposition, Insist On July 1 Tariff Hike

Written by on June 26, 2023

Power distribution companies, on Sunday night, confirmed and insisted that the tariffs, payable by electricity consumers across the country would increase from July 1, 2023, despite the opposition of the Nigeria Labour Congress.

Recall that the Nigeria Labour Congress had earlier rejected the plan to increase electricity tariff plan by forty percent describing the move as callous and insensitive to the wellbeing of the consumers.

Despite the stands of the NLC, the distribution companies, in notice to their customers, the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company AEDC announced that electricity tariffs would increase from July 1, 2023, citing the fluctuating exchange rate as reason for the increment.

Also confirming the hike, the Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company reiterated the announcement of the AEDC, stating the same reason for the increment of the tariff plan.
