The Kogi State Police Command has summoned Senator representing Kogi West, Dino Melaye to report at the State Criminal and Investigation Department after his armed guards fired on a team of policemen on patrol duties in the state.
A police sergeant during the encounter was shot in the chest and is recuperating in the hospital according to the police in a statement signed and issued today by the state Police Spokesperson, DSP William Ovye Aya.
The Kogi Police Command asked Melaye to report at the SCID office in the state capital, in the company of his armed guards, as investigation began on the shooting.
Senator Melaye had on Thursday alleged on social media that he was shot at by the police who barricaded the road to stop his movement in an attempt to assasinate him.
But the police, in their statement refuted the Senator’s claim, explaining that Melaye’s guards opened fire first on the police team on normal patrol, hitting one of the men and prompting the police to respond.
