The Kwara state chapter of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, has faulted the outcome of the Saturday local government election, noting that it is clear to Nigerians that the election was not free and fair.

The state independent electoral commission, KWASIEC, had on Sunday evening declared the Chairmanship candidates of the ruling All Progressives Congress, as winners in all the 16 local government council areas of the state.

The chairman of the KWASIEC, Alhaji Uthman Ajidagba, said that the APC won 181 councillorship seats while the PDP won 8. He also said that 4 councillorship seats were inconclusive in Ilorin West, Moro and Edu local government areas of the state.

Addressing newsmen in Ilorin, the chairman of the PDP Akogun Iyiola Oyedepo while claiming that this council election is the worst in the history of Kwara state and Nigeria by extension, alleged that the election witnessed ballot snatching and votes doctoring.

He however stated that the party may not contest the results as it lacks convenience in the state Judiciary which is being controlled by the powerful people in the state. Oyedepo said the party is fully prepared to take over in 2019 gubernatorial election.

Oyedepo also urged the state Police command to release some members of the party arrested on Sunday during a protest at the KWASIEC office against alleged electoral fraud.  Meanwhile, the state government has hailed the peaceful conduct of the elections and called on all residents of the state to remain calm and law abiding.
