PDP BoT grants Sheriff’s request to hold convention in Abuja
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), desperate for peace among its members, has conceded to some of the demands made by its factional National Chairman, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff.
Rising from a meeting in Abuja on Monday, the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the party directed the Senator Ahmed Makarfi-led national caretaker committee to hold the next national convention of the party in Abuja. The convention had been earlier scheduled to hold in Port-Harcourt.
The Bot also dissolved the national convention committee under the leadership of the Governor of Rivers State, Mr. Nyesom Wike. Both conditions are part of the peace accord reached with the Ali Modu Sheriff faction in the quest to end the crisis ravaging the party.
In a communiqué read by its National Chairman, Senator Walid Jubrin, the BoT directed that a new convention planning committee be immediately constituted by the caretaker committee. Walid also urged the board’s reconciliation committee, headed by Professor Jerry Gana, to continue with all good efforts for the reconciliation of the party.
