Police ban search of citizen’s mobile phones by officers

The Inspector-general of police, Solomon Arase has banned officers of the Nigerian police force have from illegally accessing mobile phones of citizens. In a circular issued by the IGP yesterday, the IGP mandated the police officers to protect right of private and family lives.
Abayomi Shogunle, the Officer in Charge of Complaint Response Unit of the force urged members of the public to contact the unit’s twitter handle @PoliceNG_CRU to report any disobedience to this order by police officers.
Report says officers of the Nigerian police force in recent times have been engaging in illegal searching of citizens’ mobile phones even after the citizens have properly identified themselves.
