NUJ President Seeks Improved Welfare, Protection For Journalists

Written by on November 15, 2022

The National President of Nigeria Union of Journalists, Chris Isiguzo, has advocated decent wages for journalists. It also sought protection of journalists from attacks or hazards, conducive working environment and provision of required tools to cover elections.

Isiguzo stated these, on Monday in GRA, Ikeja, Lagos, during a two-day capacity building for journalists and civil society organizations organized by Centre for Democracy and Development, Independent National Electoral Commission and the National President of Nigeria Union of Journalists.

The NUJ President said the workshop was very important, given the fact that elections in Nigeria are always considered as do-or-die affairs. He said it is auspicious for media professionals to brainstorm ahead of the election year so as to prepare themselves very well for the onerous task ahead.

Isiguzo, therefore, urged professionals to brace up for the challenges ahead, as they are expected to participate in the process of social reconstruction and democratization by providing a positive and participatory forum for exchange of ideas, democracy and nation-building, while discharging their duties.
