The Federal Government has declared that no state can reduce the national minimum wage from the present eighteen thousand naira because it is the law of the land. This was disclosed on Tuesday as the government said it has budgeted five hundred billion naira for job creation and poverty eradication in the 2016 Budget.
Giving the position of the government at a meeting with the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige, said the governors were only playing politics with the issue of minimum wage. He said rather than reduce it, this government would want workers to be paid higher.
