No fewer than eleven persons have been arrested by the Kwara State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps for suspected illegal mining.
Parading them on Wednesday at the command headquarters, Ilorin, the Corps Public Relation Officer, Olasunkanmi Ayeni disclosed that the suspects were arrested along Shaare in Ifelodun Local Government Areas of the state on 17th of October with three trucks fully loaded with Solid Minerals
Ayeni said they were caught based on the Intelligence Information.
He listed their names as Kaka Hazare, aged 56, Mohammed Hazumi, Abdullahi Adamu, Abdullahi Mohammed, Suleiman Babayo, Mohammed Umar, Nasir Abubakar, Adamu Mohammed, Alhaji Mohammed, Nasiru Ballo and Ismail Garuba.
He, therefore, warned all illegal miners in Kwara to desist from such acts, as it will not be taken with levity
He noted that there is a pact with the Federal Ministry of Environment and an understanding with the State government to ensure that all illegal miners in the state are properly handled
However, speaking on behalf of other suspects, Muhammed Alhaji acknowledged being involved in illegal mining.
