Nigeria have dropped nine places to rank seventieth in July Fifa ranking released on Thursday. The Super Eagles were ranked sixty-first in June’s rating but have now dropped to be ranked sixteenth best team in Africa.
In reaction, African Cup of Nations’ 1984 silver medal-winning coach, Chief Festus Adegboye Onigbinde, has described the ranking as a case of getting what the nation deserve.
Onigbinde, who is a member of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF)’s technical committee, said that the refusal of the nation’s football administrator to factor in the developmental aspect of the game led to the current ranking and could see the nation crash to more embarrassing depths and out of global reckoning in the game in no time.
