Nigeria Army orders officers to declare assets in fight against corruption

Nigerian armyFollowing the manner retired top officers of the Nigeria Army are being fingered in the current corruption saga rocking Nigeria, Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai, has ordered all officers under his command to declare their assets immediately.

General Buratai said the move had becomes necessary because all serving officers of the Nigeria Army have the presidential commission, which makes them public servants.

A statement issued by the acting director, Army Public Relations, Colonel Sani Usman, said General Buratai gave the directive during a conference with principal staff officers and directors serving at the Army Headquarters.

The statement recalls that the Chief of Army Staff had declared his assets soon after his appointment as Commander of the Multinational Joint Task Force in May 2015 and also on his appointment as the Chief of Army Staff in July 2015.
