NEMA: Flood destroyed properties, farmlands in 225 communities in Kano, Jigawa

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has said that flood affected two hundred and twenty-five (225) communities following heavy and prolonged downpour across thirty-one (31) local government areas of Kano and Jigawa States from July to date.

NEMA Territorial Coordinator, Kano/Jigawa Territorial Office- Dr. Nuradeen ABDULLAHI, made the disclosure in a statement in Kano today.

Dr. ABDULLAHI said the flood destroyed many houses, infrastructure, farmlands, livestock, properties and displaced hundreds of households.

Among other areas affected in Kano State are: Tudun Wada; Doguwa, Kibiya, Kiru, Gwale, Danbatta, Bagwai, Tsanyawa, Rimin Gado and Dawakin Kudu.

While in Jigawa, the disaster affected areas not limited to Kafin hausa; Malam Madori, Hadejia, Guri, Auyo, Birniwa, Jahun, Miga, Kiyawa, Gwaram, Dutse and Kirikasamma LGAs.

He urged the state governments to embark on an aggressive awareness campaign for possible response activities especially in high risk areas to mitigate further disaster.
