Naira Scarcity: Kwara Residents Express Relief As Banks Dispense Cash

Following the directive of Central bank of Nigeria to commercial banks to load Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) with cash and conduct physical operations in the banking halls through the weekends, the persistence long queues in banks and naira scarcity in Kwara state has reduced as residents can now withdraw money at the ATMs with ease.
This was seen as some banks visited by RoyalFM correspondent Opeyemi Akeredeolu in Ilorin, were not crowded, unlike a few weeks ago when the redesigned and old naira notes were scarce across Nigeria.
A civil servant Mrs Oni recounted her joy that cash has begun to flow better than some weeks ago, adding that she was able to withdraw cash from ATMs over the weekend and today.
“ We are happy that money is now in circulation unlike last week we have to struggle before we can get cash but yesterday night when I went to one ATM stand I was able to get money and the queue was very short and today right now I am still in the bank I am getting my cash soon because it is just like three people on the line and it is so fast”
However, a Corp member Emmanuel Salami while expressing his relief towards the availability of cash stated that banks should allow citizens withdraw huge amounts at once, saying some banks are still shortening the highest amount to be withdrawn via the ATM.
“ We are happy of a new cash policy, now that every bank atm machine even inside the bank we can get cash but we want to beg the bank to improve and enable us to withdraw more as some enable us to withdraw ₦20,000, ₦10,000, ₦5,000″
Let leave this cashless policy, let go back to the normal policy ,where we can get cash and withdraw as much as we want.”
