Executive Secretary Kwara State Primary Health Care Development Agency (KWSPHCDA) ,Dr. Nusirat Elelu says the agency will continue to collaborate with relevant partners to strengthen routine immunization with communities in Kwara state .
Elelu stated this while speaking with newsmen during stakeholders meeting on Routine Immunization and Primary health care in Ilorin,Kwara state capital.
According to her “ Nigeria’s National Programme on immunization has achieved some significant improvement in service delivery coverage in the last few years with huge investments by Governments and Development Partners but unfortunately the ongoing pandemic has led to declined turnout and high dropout rates, leaving these children with inadequate protection from vaccine preventable diseases’’.
Noting therefore the need to increase awareness and sensitization of caregivers on the threat pose to child survival by Vaccine Preventable Diseases, the Executive Secretary said “these can only be achieved by influential and respected group of people in the society to include highly revered traditional and religious institutions’’.
In his remarks ,a Director in the agency , Dr. Micheal Oguntoye called on relevant stakeholders and individuals within communities to take ownership and to support routine immunization to achieve a healthy community.
Traditional rulers and representatives of faith based organisations attended the event .
