The Federal Government has denied reports linking it and Dangote group with a plan to import and flood the country with Genetically Modified rice. A statement issued on Wednesday in Abuja by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the President, Mr Femi Adesina, however, confirmed that the former administration in 2014 signed a Memorandum of Understanding for investment in integrated rice project with Dangote Industries Limited.
According to him, the Buhari-led administration is also in partnership with the African Development Bank and other reputable in order to broaden the economic base of the country. He said it is therefore ridiculous that a government that is wholly devoted to the generation of employment for Nigerians, especially through agriculture will turn around to get involved in an activity that will reverse the gains of the same partnership. It was also noted that the Federal Government has not lifted its ban on the importation of rice.
