Fayose embarks on indefinite strike in solidarity with state workers

download (14)Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has embarked on an indefinite strike in solidarity with public workers in the state who are on strike over unpaid five months’ salaries. The governor gave the declaration in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, in a broadcast on the state-owned television. Public workers had on the twenty-sixth of May began an industrial action to press home for the payment of their salaries.

 

In the broadcast, the governor said he had paid the January salary of local government council workers, primary school teachers and subventions to tertiary institutions in the state. He however insisted that the state could not pay workers’ salary regularly due to the current downturn in the nation’s economy and the heavy loan burden left by his predecessor.
