EFCC and aide trade words over Fani-Kayode’s health
Former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode slumped on Saturday at premises of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, where he is being held on allegations of corruption. His spokesperson, Jude Ndukwe, in a statement yesterday said that the former minister was promptly revived by a team at the EFCC’s medical facility.
Fani-Kayode, who served as the director of media and publicity for the Goodluck Jonathan presidential election campaign team in 2015, was re-arrested on Friday by the EFCC. He had earlier been arrested and released after being held for sixty-seven days.
Ndukwe said in the statement that Fani-Kayode’s family had earlier raised concerns about his health when he was re-arrested, but that their concerns were ignored. He condemned the commission for re-arresting Fani-Kayode and called for his release pending his arraignment for the charges against him. Ndukwe also warned of consequences if the former minister is harmed.
However in a quick rebuttal, the EFCC has dismissed Ndukwe’s claims, saying there is no truth whatsoever in them. EFCC spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren said Fani-kayode and Obanikoro sat together and enjoyed their jokes at the first round of checks of inmates in EFCC custody on Monday night.
