A micro-economist and life member of Nigeria Economic Society, Sir Ayodele Oyinloye, has described the nation’s salary structure as faulty and called for a complete review. The economist noted that some states receive billions of Naira from federal allocation while others find it difficult implement the minimum wage.
He said politicians should make sacrifices by cutting down their take home pay while the Federal Government should be able to pay an average Nigerian worker thirty thousand naira as minimum wage. Oyinloye who said he does not subscribe to uniformity in the payment of salaries in every state, also called for a review of the country’s tax laws to ensure that not only salary earners bear the burden of taxes.
