Following a successful outing with a very colourful 2022 Durbar, the secretary of the Board of Trustees of Ilorin Central Jummat Mosque, Alh SHEHU ABDULGAFAR has called on wealthy indigenes of Ilorin to contribute more to the maintenance of the ultra- modern mosque.
AbdulGafar made the statement today during the meeting of members of the board of trustees and stakeholders of Ilorin Central Jumaat Mosque at the Women Wing of the Central Mosque in the Kwara State capital.
“I wish to end this report by reminding all of us that this mosque has no investment of its own, and only a few individuals among our blessed ones have cared about its sustainable maintenance, and now it all seems like a repeat of the mistakes of the past.”
“while we continues to bask in the euphoria of having yet another iconic edifice, as a Ummah, the reality of its continued sustenance vis-a-vis, its sorry past seems to have been lost on us. yet again, i therefore call on you to donate generously towards the sustainable maintenance of the mosque,” AbdulGafar stated.
While thanking those who have consistently contributed funds towards the maintenance of the mosque, AbdulGafar, urged other wealthy indigenes of Ilorin to follow suit.
According to him, the meeting takes place annually every third day of Eid’l Kabir with committee members giving progress reports, budget presentations and raising funds for the proper maintenance of the magnificent edifice.
Earlier, the chairman, Board of Trustees of the mosque, Justice Alfa Belgore, in his welcome address disclosed that,” the mosque is not receiving any subvention from any government apart from the five local governments constituting the Ilorin Emirate.
He also described the mosque as the best of its kind in Africa and expressed hope that the maintenance of the mosque would be sustained to prevent any form of degradation.
Belgore added” finally, I once again welcome you all to this meeting, wish you fruitful deliberation and urge you to donate generously to enable us to sustain the current tempo in the maintenance of the mosque.”
Meanwhile, Mallam Saliu Mustapha the All Progressives Congress (APC) flag bearer for Kwara Central Senatorial District stood out among other distinguished personalities at the event with a donation of the sum of thirty million naira. The philanthropist said that the motive behind his action is to attract more blessing from Allah and for a better Kwara.
In his words: “I am giving because I believe if I do more God will also bless me more. It is part of our teachings in Islam to always give to the needy”.
At the meeting were crème de la crème of Ilorin extraction who are not tired in giving for the maintenance of the central mosque.
