The Director-General of the Labour Party Presidential Campaign Council, Doyin Okupe, has been sentenced to two and half years for breaching the Money Laundering Act.
According to reports gathered, Okupe was convicted of the offence by a Federal High Court in Abuja, and was alleged by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), of receiving over 200 million naira cash from former National Security Adviser (NSA) Sambo Dasuki.
In a judgment delivered today by Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu, Okupe was found guilty of contravening sections 16(1) and (2) of the Money Laundering Act and accepting cash in excess of the threshold allowed under the Act without going through a financial institution.
